Day 7: Last Day of Class, First Day of Hardcore (attempted) Shopping

How much do I love NL? We got celebratory drinks from the ISHSS staff for completing our first week of class.

A class that drinks together, stays together. Errr, something.

Camilo, Evan, and Etienne.

Ita, Charles and me. He wanted to be surrounded by ladies for his Facebook picture. Heh

The PHK courtyard cat, whose bath I interrupted.

After drinks, Celeste and I went out shopping near Kalverstraat because shops are open later on Thursday nights.

Photobucket
Near Spui. Yes, more canal pictures.

Photobucket
Near UvA, on our walk there.

Part of the UvA campus in the center of Amsterdam.

I bought a couple of shirts from H&M but decided the next day I probably needed to find some stores with slightly larger clothing.

Day 8: Friday adventures at Albert Cuyp(straat).

Other people had already made some plans to travel for the weekend, or do other things so I decided now was the time for me to use public transit and wander on my own for some shopping.

Photobucket
Tram, much like the one I took to Albert Cuyp, site of a very large outdoor market.
Photobucket
Stopped outside a cake shop. I should have taken some better pictures, they had amazingly decorated cakes.

Albert Cuyp!
I did indeed find not one but two plus-sized clothing stores where I spent what was probably too much money but it was worth it because I got cute, comfy (sale) clothes and now I have more than 5 days worth of clothing yay. Other market sights:

Lunch (PB&J I made) at Albert Cuyp.
Photobucket
Inappropriate chocolates, my favorite.
Photobucket
Music cart that came through the market as I was leaving.
Photobucket
Fun fabric. They had lots of fabric stalls.
Photobucket
Strange public art.
I wandered home around 4pm after heading out a little before 11am. Whew. Some people were sitting in the courtyard, so I joined them in a walk up to NEMO, an interactive technology museum mostly desgined for kids. However, they have a great deck that is free to walk up to, so we went up there.
For reference: what NEMO looks like:

And now, pictures from the walk to NEMO (where there are ships you can read about as part of the ship museum next door).

Cat and dog aboard the boat.

Rescue boat fail.

Anchors away!

Boats, boats, boats. There seems to be a theme here.

NEMO tower.

Walking buddies: Nemu, Ita, Priya, and Akachi.

Cheeeese. (and wind)

The NEMO deck.

Pretending to lounge before the rain started.

Me and Priya. She makes me feel tall.
Photobucket
Priya is excited about posing for pictures.
Photobucket
Another view from the top. The clouds came in, so it was hard to get a good picture.

Then I came home, watched more Veronica Mars online and stayed up way too late. Whoops.

Day 9: Sick Saturday

I did very little of use today, as I woke up with sinus pressure and general craptastic feelings.

Eek! I can’t believe I’m putting this on the Internet.

I spent a lot of the day with hot compresses on my face. I took a quick trip to the store to get tea and some soup as well as some nasal spray and vitamin C to ward off anything menacing. We’ll see if it works.
